Who is eligible to participate in a Dementia Minds group?
Persons eligible for a Dementia Minds group must have a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia.
Types of dementia may include Alzheimer’s Disease, Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Disease (LBD), Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA), Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) or other.
Is Dementia Minds a support group?
Dementia Minds groups provide support and so much more.
In addition to support, Dementia Minds participants:
- Share the experience of living with dementia
- Share strategies to live well with dementia
- Develop friendships
- Learn new things
- Have fun Create resources, presentations, and more for others
- Conduct presentations for persons living with dementia, licensed health care professionals, researchers, families, care partners, policymakers, and communities at large

How often do Dementia Minds group meet?
Typically, groups meet once a week. Some groups may choose to meet every other week.
How long is a Dementia Minds meeting?
Meetings are usually about 1 hour.
How many participants are in a Dementia Minds group?
A Dementia Minds group typically has 8 members; however, group size may range from 3 to 10 participants.
Who facilitates the Dementia Minds meetings?
A three-person support team facilitates the weekly meetings. This team also assists with presentation development and coordinates educational events.
Are all meetings held virtually?
All meetings are held virtually using Zoom. Click for information about how to join a Zoom meeting.What technology is needed to participate in a Dementia Minds group?
1. Dementia Minds group meetings meet via Zoom. While Zoom can be accessed on a smartphone, a laptop or tablet is preferred.
2. A webcam and microphone are needed. Most computers, tablets, and laptops have built-in webcams and microphones. Webcams with microphones can be purchased. Click here to see webcams available on Amazon.com.

5. A headset with a microphone is suggested (but not required) for privacy during group discussion, and to filter out background noise and distractions.
